Random Excerpt . . . Justice In Death by Francesca Vance

Justice In Death

A Reaper Society Short Story
Release: June 16, 2017
Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Ash Campbell is looking for a promotion in the Reaper World. When he lands the case of a missing Human and Fae, he'll stop at nothing to close the case. But will he be able to find the missing girls before it's too late?

Sebastian Romero has crossed the line this time. He made a deal he can't deliver on. He'll soon learn the contractor's justice may not be the justice he should be afraid of.

Ash’s phone rang, one sharp bling that startled him out of his thoughts. “Ash,” he said, turning to walk back to the van.
“It’s Rosette.” She paused and he got the sense that it was big news by her hesitation.
“Spit it out.” He dug the keys out of his pocket and unlocked the door. Rosette wasn’t one to let emotions get in the way; she wasn’t cold per se, but professional and concise. Crying or complaining didn’t change facts and accomplished nothing. She’d been that way as long as Ash had known her. The silence on the other end made his hair stand on end.
“They were found, weren’t they,” he said softly. “Recovery or Rescue?” Alive or dead.
He cursed under his breath. Alive and it would be a long road to recovery; dead then this was all for nothing.
“Rescue. They’re alive but both of them need medical care,” she supplied, her words stuttering as she seemed to force them out. How bad were they? What kind of damage had been done by Sebastian’s men?
Ash turned the van around and headed back to the Guild, a whispered prayer falling from his lips the entire way.
