Synopsis:

Soulmates destined to collide. Six years after surviving a tragic loss, a photograph of a young woman turns Oliver Bishop’s world upside down. He’s on a mission, tracking her from state to state. Each stop bringing him closer to finding her. Will his search find the ghost vixen, or will the madman stalking her get to her first? After fourteen years of running from a nightmare, Fallyn Blackwood barely escaped her stalker's clutches in Washington. When a sexy stranger walks into Ray’s Diner, her entire world shifts on its axis. Scared and determined, she finds herself fighting his protective nature—and her desire. The problem is, she’s not looking to be saved. He’s come too far to back down. He found her, and he won’t let go. Freedom from the past is within his grasp, and he'll fight for her love.

Portrait of a man with naked torso and tattooes. Dark and deep shadows.

EXCERPT:

By the time I’ve showered and changed, the delectable aroma of pizza permeates the room. Oliver is perched on the bed, taking up most of the space, with a piece of mouth-watering heaven in his hands. His hair is wet and he has a new change of clothes on. Where did he shower? Do I really care? He looks good enough to eat. Just then my tummy grumbles, reminding me of another hunger. I lift the box. When I notice what he’s ordered, I freeze in my tracks.
“You don’t like chicken and jalapeño pizza? Ever since trying it in Texas, I don’t want another flavor. I’m obsessed.” He snorts, takes a bite, and points to a corner desk. “I ordered a salad and chicken tenders if you would rather have that.” “It’s not that. It’s my go-to pizza of choice. Harper devours mine at least once a week.” He stops chewing and stares quizzically my way. “You don’t say?” I wonder what else we have in common. Is he the yin to my yang, the Tom to my Jerry, the warmth needed to melt the ice in my heart? Before I have time to respond, he asks, “Beer or wine?” “Beer, of course,” I answer immediately. “Football or baseball?” “Football. You know I’m from the south. We love our teams.” “Gator or Nole?” “Florida Gator all the way, baby. Before all this happened, I planned on going to college in Gainesville.” I shrug, push the haunting memories back, and focus on enjoying the game we are playing. “Chocolate or vanilla?” “Neither. Chunky Monkey.” “Really? Okay. What about river or beach?” “Depends. Do we fish or swim?” “Fish.” “Then river. Okay, stud, my turn.” From out of nowhere, a devilish grin appears. He inclines his chin then sinks his teeth into the steaming pie. “Sunrise or sunset?” I chew a jalapeño and wait. “Sunrise.” “Ford or Chevy?” “Ford.” “Country or rock ’n roll?” His forehead crinkles deep in thought before he answers. “Nope can’t choose. Love ‘em both.” Mouth full of yumminess, I reply, “Fair enough, Ollie. I totally agree with you. Spring or fall?” “Well, since that’s when I kissed you, fall is my preference, baby.” I stutter, shocked by his answer, and whisper, “Hipster or bikini?” “Commando.” He smirks.
“Then I won’t tell you what I’m wearing under these clothes,” I playfully banter.

Anson by Alta Hensley and Maggie Ryan is LIVE and #FREE with Kindle Unlimited!

anson_big

Synopsis:

USA Today Bestselling Authors Maggie Ryan and Alta Hensley join forces again to bring you the third novel in this action-packed, romantic suspense trilogy full of bad boys and the women who love them. Sinister…passion…freedom.

Anson Steele, along with his two brothers and father, lives by one code: Help all in need. Even if it means saving those who walk among the most sinister criminals in the world. Known as The Black Stallions, their mission is simple – provide rescue and safety to the innocents drawn into the evil depths of the underground. Natalia Alvarez has been sold to the leader of one of Argentinian’s largest drug cartels at an underground human auction. Being sold to the highest bidder, she is now nothing more than a possession of Juan Montez and hidden away deep within the walls of his South American compound.

Anson Steele has been on the hunt for Natalia since the day he first saw her at the auction and helplessly had to watch her while not being able to do a thing about it. But he has made it is life’s mission to find this woman and pull her out of the depths of hell at whatever cost. She will be his save one way or another. With the backdrop of the mission being the unforgiving jungles and the dangerous streets of Argentina, and escaping a foreign country near impossible, is Natalia doomed to be locked away forever?

While fighting against a powerful drug cartel and their ruthless leader, will Anson Steele be able to rescue Natalia before it is too late? Will they both be able to find refuse in The Black Stallion Ranch and put this awful nightmare behind them? Publisher's Note: This book contains graphic sex and BDSM elements.

**My Review**
3.5 stars

This is my first book by these authors and I think it was well-written and the story flowed well. Anson was a man who was drawn to a woman and felt that he needed to save her at all costs. He was determined to have her safely in his arms and would do anything to make that happen. I liked that the authors were able to build up the surroundings and give a clear picture of Argentina, its surrounding areas. I liked that they didn't sugar coat any of the story.

I liked that Anson wasn't afraid to let Natalia know how he felt about her. He was drawn to her and he told her exactly why without worry of how she would react to it. He was honest. I liked their banter. Once Natalia realized that he truly wanted to help her and wasn't just another sick man looking to take advantage of her, they were able to develop a really good chemistry.

Things I didn't like:
It took me a long time to actually get into the book. There was action and mystery, but none of it pulled me in until roughly 35-40%. With that, I wasn't able to connect with the characters. I didn't feel the emotion I should have felt from a woman who was "broken" or "defeated." Natalia commented several times that she'd failed her mission and with the mission she set for herself I felt that it should have been gut-wrenching, but that emotion didn't come across in the book. I also felt like the situation with Montez was predictable. They didn't make sure it was finished and I don't see that as something someone like Anson would have done (although getting out of there alive was key, there was plenty of opportunity to end it). I also feel like the cover model wasn't a match to Anson. The book described Anson with blonde hair, blue eyes and yet the cover depicts otherwise.

Overall, I liked the book and would read more from the author.
**I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**

What made you want to write this anthology?

  • Elise: Well, it’s selfish really! Stephanie and Kristin are fantastic writers and I wanted the opportunity to work with them! Also, I love sports but wanted to do something that was a bit different than my Gold Hockey books. We decided to focus on the management side, which has been a blast to write!
  • Stephanie: When Elise Faber approached me and Kristen Vayden about doing the collection, I was definitely nervous because I’d never written a sports romance, and I haven’t written anything shorter than a full length novel in a long time. But it was because I was nervous that I knew I had to do it. When you push yourself out of your comfort zone, all kinds of cool, magical things happen.
  • Kristin:  I wish I could take credit for such a great idea, but I can’t! It was a concept developed by our publisher and spear headed by Elise Faber—sexy librarian extrodianare( and Bad ass Hockey player!)

What is this anthology about? Are the stories related/interconnected?

  • Elise: Hot alpha athletes, inter-office complications, forbidden love. We’ve got a taste of it all! The stories all take place within the largest athlete management firm in the states, Prestige Media Group.
  • Stephanie: The anthology is made up of three, sexy sports romances. Characters from each story work at Prestige Media Group, a west coast sports agency with offices in Seattle and San Francisco.  In all three stories, love is off limits because of either professional boundaries or personal ties.
  • Kristin: Love! Wait, you meant more specific. Got it. It’s about guys who are on top of their game in life, and how love tackles them, and the women that dominate these alpha males by winning their hearts.
All these guys work in the same agency or are with the same agency.

Did you guys write the stories independently? Or discuss them with each other?

  • Elise: We discussed theme and our story basics before writing, then off we went. I can say that I LOVED the way Kristin and Stephanie’s stories turned out! They’re awesome!
  • Stephanie: After we hashed out the particulars about Prestige, we each chose a basic plot premises for our stories, and we got to work. Early on, we shared our initial  chapters to make sure we all felt like our stories would work together, and then we went from there.
  • Kristin: We correlated on specific themes, but each story is very original and different from the others. We all have different voices, and I think the great part about anthologies is that you can hear that difference in voice as you read.

How different was it for you to write a sports romance? What do you typically write?

  • Elise: I write hockey romance (Blocked and Backhand Gold Hockey #1 and #2, out and releasing 4/4/17, respectively) but those are more team based. It was fun to focus on the business side! And I’ve always wanted to write a hot boss-secretary romance (my story in this is Offsides). Kristin and Stephanie threw me a bone and let me explore that!
  • Stephanie: For me, writing a sports romance was completely new territory. All of my other novels are contemporary or new adult, standalone romances that are set in the Saint Streets, a quirky neighborhood in my hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana. My heroes run the gamut from angsty college professors (Fall Semester), to lovesick landscapers (Butterfly Ginger), to drop-dead gorgeous doctors (Leave a Mark). But just like Hutch, they are sweet to the core and will do anything to capture the hearts of the women they love. Writing a sports romance meant that I had to do some research about sports agencies, the football draft process, summer training camps, and the like, but I learned a lot and it was fun!
  • Kristin: It was a different genre for me, but not a stretch. I write both contemporary romance ( The ONE) and historical romance ( What the Duke Wants). Writing a sports anthology was fun, and I really enjoyed it! I plan on writing more in this genre later—right now I’m finishing up a story about a sexy cowboy. Life’s hard 😉 😉

What is your favorite sport/team? Did you ever play sports growing up? Do you play now?

  • Elise: HOCKEY! (sense the enthusiasm there?) San Jose Sharks! I played a ton of sports growing (soccer, basketball, volleyball, hockey) and I still play hockey. It’s a blast!
  • Stephanie: Personally, I’m not very sporty. My theory is that Super Bowl Sunday is a great day to go to the movies because nobody is there. If I had to pick a favorite sport, it would be running because I am a runner. I definitely tune in to the track and long distance events during the summer Olympics, so I guess I’d have to say my favorite team is Team USA.
  • Kristin: My favorite sport — Cheerleading and Yes. IT IS A SPORT! Team —  Seahawks 12th MAN! Did I play — Yes! Though my hubby teases me about not being coordinated enough to play! While there is some truth to that—ok a lot of truth to that—I did play softball and I cheered both in high school and college. Love cheerleading!

What genre/trope can you currently not stay away from?

  • Elise: I’m devouring contemporary and historical romance! I love it so much!
  • Kristin: Right now I’m reading Cheater by Rachel Van Dyken. Dear Lord.  Anything contemporary is my poison at the moment.

What is YOUR story about?

  • Elise: My story follows Becca and Devon. Becca is Devon’s executive assistant on a short-term contract while his normal assistant is on maternity leave. They’re both attracted to each other but can’t risk acting on anything, not when it breaks all the HR rules out there. Unfortunately, or really fortunately for them, the heart (and body) sometimes don’t listen to the best intentions of your brain!
  • Stephanie: Off Guard is about Charlie Woodruff, who has just landed the PR job of her dreams at Prestige Media Group in San Francisco. She’s found a decent apartment and made friends at work, so when she meets a gorgeous stranger who makes her laugh and steals her breath, it seems like icing on the cake — until Charlie discovers he’s a client. Hutch Barlow Hutch Barlow — newly drafted wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders — looks like an avenging angel, hangs on her every word, and is completely off-limits. The trouble is he also refuses to take “no” for an answer. And if she’s being honest, Charlie doesn’t want him to. But seeing him means she could lose everything — including her heart.
  • Kristin: Markus is fully aware that Ava is off limits. Not only is she his best friend, and biggest client’s twin sister. But she also hates him—ever since her brother, Bryce, chose to play football again after his injury. Ava blames Markus, going as far as calling him a sell out to all his colleagues. But that doesn’t stop him from kissing her, even when it might cost him his best friend. It doesn’t’ stop him from pursuing her, even when it might cost his career. And it certainly doesn’t stop him from stopping at nothing to win her over, because life’s all about risks, And she’s the biggest risk he’ll ever take.

Do you write in silence or to music?

  • Elise: To music! My hockey playlist is http://spoti.fi/2mE6vv6
  • Stephanie: While music features pretty heavily in most of my work, I write in silence because I’m easily distracted. My current WIP is about a rising rock star and super-shy bookworm, and I listen to songs that crop up in the novel in between writing scenes, like while I drive to work or cook dinner.  That playlist is going to be a doozy!
  • Kristin: Both. I have little ones that tend to flit in and out of my work space needing juice, snacks, etc so I tend to have more than enough noise to keep me busy, but when I have a block that’s just my time to write, I like to have a spotify play list on, especially if its in a particularly emotional, or steamy part of the book.

ELISE FABER
Aside from writing romance, Elise’s passions are chocolate, Star Wars, and hockey (the order depending on the day and how well her team — the Sharks! — are playing). She and her husband also play as much hockey as they can squeeze into their schedules, so much so that their typical date night is spent on the ice. Elise is the mom to two exuberant boys and is thoroughly addicted to Dancing With the Stars. DisHonorable-AMAZON

DisHonorable-Teaser4

Synopsis:
Sofia

I knew little of Raphael Amado’s history with my family, but when he turned up on our doorstep demanding restitution, my grandfather quickly conceded. That restitution? Me.
Six months later, on my eighteenth birthday, Raphael came for me. He stole me from my home, taking me to his Tuscan estate, where from the crumbling chapel to the burnt-down vineyard, to the cellar that haunted him, the past stalked him like a shadow. It waited for him, hid behind corners for him and trapped him at every turn.

As much as Raphael’s cruelty terrified me, his darkness seduced me. But in the end, it was his tenderness that devastated me.

Raphael

Sofia came to me like an offering. Like a virgin to be sacrificed at the altar. But truth was, her grandfather betrayed her. I guess we had that in common. He’d screwed me too.
I knew hate. I'd vowed vengeance. This was never supposed to be about anything else. But in the end, her innocence broke me. The very thing I would destroy, destroyed me.

My Review:

**4.5 stars**

I really liked this book. It told the story of how Raphael was so intent on vengeance that he almost missed out on the greatest thing to happen to him. I loved that he couldn't hate Sofia and he told her as much. He tried to distance himself and stay away from her, but like the synopsis said, he was drawn to her innocence.

They didn't meet on the best of terms, (he basically took her) but in a sense he was her saving grace. Everyone thought of him as a monster for taking her and yes, he had his dark moments, but ultimately his character was like able and I enjoyed his complexity. Her grandfather never had her best interest at heart and treated her as nothing more than a bargaining chip throughout the whole book.

I also liked that Sofia didn't lose herself. Lately, I've seen a trend with dark romances where the women forget that being submissive doesn't mean they can't still maintain their own identity. I also thought this book was on the lighter side of the dark romance aspect.

I wasn't sure if there would be a sequel to this book, but I'd love to get Lina (Sofia's sister) and Damon's (Raphael's brother) story. I'd also like to know more about their other brother who went into the military. There was mention of him being missing, but that never got developed in the book.

I look forward to more from the author and would recommend her to others.

Cracked (Book 1)

1 March 2016
173 pages

"One of the most bizarre love stories that you'll ever read..."

Synopsis:

Erika and Dominique are drowning in a loveless marriage.
Having done everything in her power to save it, Erika throws in the towel when not 1, not 2, but 3 of her husband’s mistress’s show up at their home. Shattered and fed-up, she embarks on a path of vengeance that neither of them are prepared for…

Tired of being on the back burner, Kizzy shows up at Dominique’s home to claim what’s hers. For a half a decade, she’s been on the sideline and she’s about had enough of it…

It was only sex, fun and games for Yadee, until she broke the side chick cardinal rule and caught feelings. Now she wants her cake and to eat it too.

Kae is a monkey wrench in everyone’s plans… a surprise that undoubtedly alters the competition for Dominique’s love.

Told from the perspective of a broken wife, Cracked is an unsettling tale about two seasoned lovers, haplessly racing towards a devastating and chilling end.

Excerpt:

I lower to my knees and rest my head at his feet.

“You want me to beg? Okay. I’ll beg…”

The look of desperation on my face drew out a belly laugh; me hurting is like the funniest thing he has ever seen.

“It amuses you and fulfills some sick need to see me beg at your feet like this, doesn’t it?”

He laughs even harder.

I stand up, and hover over him. Fuming… infuriated with his blatant disrespect for my feelings. Wine plus pinned up emotions, equals a drunken outburst. And that’s exactly what he’s about to get.

“You are unbelievable! I feel tricked, bamboozled! You are not the man that I married Dominique! If you were going to treat me like this, why did you make me your wife?!” I question.

He leans back with a stupid smirk on his face and locks his fingers behind his head.

“You want to know the truth? Okay. Here’s the truth. Erika I married you because you were the best of a lot of bad options. You were the prettiest trash out of all of the trash in that god forsaken town; does that answer your question?”

The music is blasting and he’s focused on the road, at least I thought. Coming up on a red light, I see that as my chance to jet. Before he even comes to a complete stop, I open the door and launch out, but I don’t even get a foot on the ground.

“Get your crazy ass back in this car! Really Kinnan!” He says before smacking the shit out of me.

I’d had enough of this one-night stand roughing me up, so I clock him so hard in the jaw his teeth clicked. We trade licks and what starts off as a boxing match, ends in a lip lock. It was so sudden. His hand snakes around my waste and roughly pulls me into his side. He bites my lip to gain control and when I settle down he slips his tongue in my mouth. We dance; tonguing one another down like he’d just come home from Iraq or prison.
“Where do you live Kinnan?”
“On North Avenue and Halsted, right next to the Apple store.” I answer.
“Is there someone there waiting for you?” he asks
“No, I’m single.”
He gives me another long, hard, passionate kiss and then pushes me over into my seat.
“Not anymore.”
I just stare at him wondering how and why am I allowing a complete stranger to handle and control me in this way; a gorgeous, domineering stranger. He makes the butterflies in my stomach salsa. He makes my heart beat double time. I feel so vulnerable, but desired by him. He has me sitting here thinking stupid shit like, I don’t care how many times he beats me, as long as he loves me long time afterwards. I was so mad at Kendrae for how he allowed Dominique to treat him, but here I am in a crazy situation myself. I know without a shadow of a doubt, that Landon and I are going to have a something that people won’t ever understand.

My efforts to make her feel like the luckiest woman on earth has left me with a list of lies and a broken heart. God I love that beautiful, filthy slut. She's my everything... TOO BAD SHE HAS TO DIE."
Excerpt:

I wipe the blood trickling from my forehead on the sleeves of my shirt. Kyland was right, I didn’t expect for him to put up such a fight, I underestimated him, my bad. I give him another kick to the face and then I attempt to pick his little short ass up; I need him on the bed for what I’m about to do to him.

“Since you like that freaky kinky shit, you wouldn’t mind being tied up, now would you?” I brought rope, a cutter, a saw, a sledge hammer, and a host of other fun things.

“I know you can’t hear me talking to you, because you got knocked the fuck out, but we have to make this quick because Saisha’s on her way.” I say tying his hands to each side of the headboard. Saisha tends to talk, answer the phone and even text in her sleep; not remembering a damn thing in the morning. I tape up his mouth and stand back and look at him. This piece of shit fucked my wife in my home… fuck this, he’s about to be wide awake for the shit I’m about to do. I toss the champagne on the side of the bed and hurl the bucket of ice in face.
            “Wake up, muthafucka.”
Shaking his head and trying to catch his breath, Kyland looks at me with fear in his eyes. He’s wincing from the pain of his broken ankle, but he refuses to blink; maybe it’s because of the sledge hammer resting against my leg.
“Now I’ve kept my mouth closed all of this time. I’ve known about you and Saisha for a while now, and for a minute I was appreciative for you being able to put a smile on her face; because a smile from my wife is hard to come by.” I slowly lift the sledge hammer up and place it on my shoulder. “You took being disrespectful to a whole other level when you decided to bang my wife in our bed; the bed I paid for.” I dig in my pocket and pull out his cufflink. “KJ, that’s you, right? You see where being trifling and sloppy has gotten you Kyland? Fucking with Saisha has landed you in some deep shit.”
He’s yanking at the ropes and mumbling through his taped mouth. You can tell he’s scared to death, but he’s still trying to talk shit like he’s hard.
“Punk, shut up, before I bust your shit. Any minute now Saisha is going to text you that she’s on her way. I set her phone alarm to wake her up forty-five minutes from when I’d arrive here; I wanted to have some fun with you first.” I take the hammer and point it at his right knee. “You tried to hit me with that, didn’t you?”
Kyland shakes his head no, but I call him a liar and bring the sledge down on his knee as hard as I can; drawing a long-muffled cry from him.

**My Review**
4 stars
The books fall in to the drama genre, but clearly they need to create a genre specifically for them and label it "crazy as f*&$."

That being said, the psycho in me is always thrilled when Obsession releases a new book because I know there will always be at least one fellow psycho who makes you love and sympathize with them, even if they go too far (read the synopsis of each book, trust me, they go too far).

These books touch on very difficult situations and the things we do for love, sometimes ridiculous, sometimes unwarranted, and sometimes with our best intentions. Regardless of the reasons, these characters did a lot for love because they expected that same love and devotion in return. Did they get it? Read the books and find out. You won't be disappointed.

The books tended to have quite a few clichés that I didn't like. They could have been left out and the story would have progressed perfectly fine without it. Also, I liked the covers of books one and two, but I didn't too much like the cover for book three. These are not full length books, which the author does disclose, but I feel like more character development could have been included in books two and three, which would have essentially made them longer.

Overall, a good series. Looking forward to more from the author.
